The UnTravel Blog: Flat Search

So I’ve been looking for a flat for just around a month. Finally, I’ve found one. But let’s go back to the beginning.Rewind about five weeks ago when I returned from the Balkan Adventure and realized I needed to find a place to live. First I looked at some places in Praha and had a near encounter with a flat scammer (see the Flat Rental Scam story for more details).

Then I decided I might like to stay in Liberec for some length of time and started looking for a flat here. Numerous flat tours later and I finally found one with a great location, price and a decent set of neighbors even. I know, it sounds too good to be true.

But the catch is the place needs some work. Some cleaning, some paint, some elbow grease. This is cool as it will let me make it my own space, paint using my own palette and generally make it look like I want. The rent is pretty close to dirt cheap really so the extra money I’m saving will be going into some work. Not a bad deal in the long run.

I took some ‘before’ photos today and will take some after photos as well. I don’t want to post the first until some work is done so progress can be seen. So you’ll all just have to wait to see them.

The flat is a 3+1, that’s 3 rooms plus a kitchen. There’s also a hallway and a bathroom in the place of course. It’s not exactly in the center of town but just a quick 5-9 minute walk from it so without a doubt it’s a fantastic location.

Now that that is settled I can get to work and hopefully be fully moved in by the middle of the month.

So enough talking, I’m off to start cleaning so I can do some painting later this week.
