Travel Blog: Hook up, Pack Up, Get out of town!

Yep. It’s like I’m not really on holiday but instead live the the Real World house. Well maybe not that bad. Tonight’s the final night for the family. Luka left last night headed for Italy and France (hope you made it on time). Madeline leaves for Zadar tomorrow and I’m probably heading for Mostar. James is wandering about Split we think and some people showed up (Ian [US], Cassio [Brazil] Jen and Kevin’s Friend Richard [Canadianites]) so we’re going to have a huge cookout as it’s the beginning of the end of the week in Split.

Or is it? I have a business meeting tonight with a local hostel owner. If that goes well I’m hoping to remain in Split for either the next month or the month of August. It’s all up in the air at present.

So this entry was started during the day, when nothing had happened. And then… I think it was Madeline that first said we needed a full scale conflagration (that can be read as BBQ) and so we began making plans. Surprisingly every ate and drank their fill and it was a lowly 40 Kuna (about $8). We had chicken shish-kabob, čevapi (mixed, ground meat formed into a square sausage without a casing and our famous Balkan salad which had a bit of extra stuff in it last night. There was of course drink and music as well. Then about let’s say midnight, we all wandered down to the club scene on the beach and it was, dare I say it….LE-GEN….wait for it,

DARY.

Madeline and I have just decided that we MUST leave Split today. Simply because in order to out-do what we did last night would require something along the lines of a person spontaneously combusting and/or exploding and really, that just doesn’t sound like fun (and would be terribly messy). Now it means that the travels will continue and the trip must live up to the insanely high standards of last night.

So we had a massive BBQ which was grand and then we headed out to a club at around midnight. We’re not exactly sure as to the time but some of us returned to the hostel at about 4.30. I know I sort of told you that just a few paragraphs below but I’m trying to make a habit of repeating myself so there you go.

So, I’m off to Mostar today. It’s a place which I had never heard of until this week. According to Wiki it’s the ‘biggest and most important city in the Herzegovina region.’ It was the most heavily bombed city in the wars first by Serbs then Croatians, but it’s being rebuilt and is famous for, of all things, a bridge (most is bridge in many Slavic languages)

NEWS FLASH: I just found out that all Canadianites have X-Ray vision so be very careful when attempting to hide what you’re doing from them. You will probably need a lead suit of some type. [really you can just ignore this but I told Jen Horton that it would be in the travel blog].

And so the journey continues and we all go our separate ways. Split has been a wonderful and I will miss it. But I’ve got the beds booked for when Hana comes down. So that means Split will be home for another week.
