Travel Blog: The Sparkling Gem of the Croatian Coast

Dubrovnik’s old center is a walled fortress veiled in white and beckoning to tourists from around the world. That, of course, is the problem with the place. It’s literally made for tourists. To walk the city walls, 50 Kuna, to walk into a museum 20 Kuna to drink a beer…well you get the picture. The place was literally 50% more expensive than Split and about half as nice due to the hordes of sea-faring tourists that wash up on its shores when the big cruise ships roll in. Hell, even when the big cruise ship rolled out there were more tourists in Dubrovnik than anywhere else I’ve been thus far.…

Yep. It’s like I’m not really on holiday but instead live the the Real World house. Well maybe not that bad. Tonight’s the final night for the family. Luka left last night headed for Italy and France (hope you made it on time). Madeline leaves for Zadar tomorrow and I’m probably heading for Mostar. James is wandering about Split we think and some people showed up (Ian [US], Cassio [Brazil] Jen and Kevin’s Friend Richard [Canadianites]) so we’re going to have a huge cookout as it’s the beginning of the end of the week in Split.…

Travel Blog: Just a Day in the Life

So it was a day, much like any other day. I woke up, drank coffee, had a doughnut for breakfast. Chatted with some people then checked email and did some work. Then Lucas and Madeline and I went for a walk up to the hill/park on the other side of town to see the Zoo. It was a sorry affair to say the least and I was appalled by the state in which the animals were kept. The bears have tiny little prison cells while a few goats have a large area.
