After months of pondering and weeks of planning, we’ve finally launched the Kickstarter for Season One of Not So Super…
We are looking to raise enough money to make the first season and hopefully snowball that into the other four seasons. It’s going to be a long uphill battle to make the $55,000 goal of the Kickstarter but we believe the show will be worth it in the end.
The Story
A superhero midlife crisis. After years of retirement, Hero suits up to fight crime with old & new villains, despite his wife’s wishes.
What happens when a superhero hits a midlife crisis? Vince is having problems in both halves of his life, at home his marriage is crumbling because of his return to being Hero, while ‘on duty’ he’s been feeling not so super and his lack of confidence is painfully evident in his failures. Even the city is losing faith in their Protector. The tone will be dark and dramatic with some comedic elements.
The Original Pilot
Last November we entered a contest with ZoomTilt and made the semi-finals and then, the finals! That gave us a budget of $1000 and 13 days to create the entire pilot episode which you can watch below.
The Tone
This is a very adult superhero story with real life problems that everyone can relate to on one level or another. It will be gritty and realistic at every turn but still have a superhero and supervillains. I’m twisting those classic comic book archetypes into new interpretations to make it all more interesting. I didn’t want stereotypical hero/villain roles. Vince isn’t rich, he’s struggling to make ends meet and struggling to be the hero he was. Ben got famous by being a hero’s sidekick and turned it into a fashion empire so he’s like the old sidekick who struck it rich, hit it big. Because we’re going for a grittier, noir-like feel shadows will be harsher and longer. Camera angles will be indicative of that genre, etc. There will still be plenty of action, after all, it’s a superhero drama, but it won’t be a typical superhero show.
