Travel Blog: The Puls is Weak in Split

It’s Monday night and there’s just about nothing to do. Sure maybe there’s some secret location that only locals know about but that would be silly since most of them have to work tomorrow and we, the tourists, don’t.

So there would be no point to having a secret locals only hot spot on a Monday night…or would there?

Today was a nice easy day. No big bag to carry around, to tight agenda to keep. In fact, I pretty much did nothing. Well, that’s not true. In the morning I worked from the hostel (writing at ReelSEO.com) and then I headed out into town to snap some photos (and this time some videos as well).

It was insanely hot today. Somewhere around 35 C so I headed to the local public beach to take some time and splash about in the water, more like birds do, than swim like a fish. Since I don’t swim like a fish but more like a stone I thought this a better use of my time. After a quick nap on the beach (which was pleasantly unexpected and too short for a sunburn episode) I headed to one of the beach side cafes for some writing.

The writing is going amazingly well as I said and I think it’s around or over 75 pages since I headed out on this trip. I also took some time to sort of plan out where I’d like to go and in what order. I think seven countries will be plenty for this summer and I can do them all soon. I also got a line on a possible way to hang out here in Split for a few weeks.

Hana is set to come down and hang out towards the end of July for a week and then I’ll make my way back toward Prague I think. So that gives me roughly a month to hit the next 5 countries and roughly 8 or so cities. Plus I want to take in the big waterfalls in Croatia.

Sorry no images right now but it’s sort of late and I’m sort of tired and I think I’ll upload them in the morning. That will give me some good time to get some work done while they’re uploading. Though if I head for one of the local islands I might not even have time to do that. That’s the great thing about a ‘working holiday,’ I don’t really need to make some major plans.

What about the title? Oh well the club Puls was the place we were told to go. It’s supposed to be one of the best places in town. Today when we arrived we more than doubled the population of the place. This was after someone steered us to the ‘After dark’ night club where the bouncer had like three words of English including:

What?
One-Hundred Kuna

I had mentioned that he had worked so hard on his pecs that his brain had shriveled to a pea. Puls itself was no better. At first the bartenders chose to simply ignore us, but after realizing that we weren’t going to give up so easily one looked at us and asked what we wanted. When Madeline, an Aussie staying at the hostel here, said she wanted a ‘Hawaiian Cocktail’ he pretended to not speak English and sent his friend over who simply said “no.” So I said “mojito?” and he said “sure.” but they were so unpleasantly intolerant of our presence that in the end we gave them the pleasure of winning and left them to wile away the time idly. Piss poor service in my book.

So that’s it really. Nothing much to report. The hostel community pooled resources and shared a great meal of ‘Balkan’ salad and fettuccine Alfredo (salad by Madeline and I pasta by Luka). Tomorrow is another day in my Balkan adventure and so stay tuned for some great stuff! I promise you will like what you see when I finally get it uploaded.

Cau zatim!
