Yes my dear readers, it’s Death Tourism Day here in Zagreb. In a bit I’ll tell you about the title of this post (as soon as the images upload heh). In the meantime, if you haven’t guessed already I went to visit a cemetery. It made me hope that I’m loved enough that someone erects a marble monument to mark the place where my body rests when I go back the dust from which I was made. Actually, I don’t even want my body there polluting the water supply. I’d much rather be cremated so that I can more readily be used to build some new life faster.
Ok so much for my wishes after I give up this mortal coil. It was another fantastic day here in Zagreb and I’ve dubbed it my 3rd home. I really feel a kinship with this city and its inhabitants. I spoke with some really cool people today and overall I’m very pleased to report that Croatians rock. Tomislav, my Couchsurfing host, is an awesome individual and I’m a better person for having met him. The people of Zagreb have been amazingly accommodating as I speak very little and even my waitress this morning was tolerant enough to give me a few pointers on the niceties.
I have decided that tomorrow is travel day as I’m becoming overly comfortable here in Zagreb. So I’m taking an early bus to Zadar tomorrow. That means the blog post will be late and images will probably be limited. But you’re not paying so bite me 🙂 Of course if someone wanted to pay me to do this I would be very interested in listening to that proposal. Until then I’ll just keep at doing what I’m doing. I don’t know where the next few days will find me. The plan is Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik. But I might hitchhike that stretch and so there’s no telling how fast or slow it will be. Luckily it will be the weekend and I can not worry about working at all.
Now on to ‘No Zombies in Zagreb.’ Mirogoj the cemetery here is AWESOME. Some 300,000 bodies are there and it even includes graves of German soldiers killed in WWII and the first president of the Republic of Croatia. The title of this post comes from your first glimpse at the cemetery when you arrive and are faced with a gigantic arcade. Of course you’re looking at the back side and it looks like just a giant wall. This prompted me to say ‘I’ve seen castles with less fortifications than this place.’ That of course inevitably led to “There are no Zombies in Zagreb, they’re trapped behind that wall.”
So, without further adieu, here is Death Tourism in Zagreb or No Zombies in Zagreb’s Gallery.
